It is that time of year where people start thinking of going on holidays. Some plan ahead, as far as even a year in advance, however, now that the weather is starting to get warmer, most of us think about how nice it would be to get away for that special break, needing some well earned ‘down time’.
However sometimes you need more than just a holiday, you actually need a retreat, something with a little structure, something with a ‘focus’ which is of interest to you, and something with a few others where you can have company or not……..
Personally, over the years, I have been on many retreats, from Rajasthan in India through to Faro in Portugal, Greece and California. Mostly I go for self reflection time or just for some personal get away & relaxation time where the focus is on me, enjoying my environment, new good company as well as resting the body and mind and of course enjoying good wholesome and nutritious food.
These retreats have had many topics, from health and healing, spirituality, through to learning and growing, goal setting, cooking retreats by trying and cooking new foods as well as a silent retreat which I loved and not only recharged me, it energised me for my return back to life and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Retreats really have come a long way from the days when it was a purely religious concept.
At Virtuoso Foods, we have designed our retreats to be one of inward exploration that lets your feelings open out and gives you access to both the light and dark corners of your deepest feelings and relationships simply through having time away from your normal routines, work and relationships giving you time to reflect, rest and be still.
It is a concentrated time in which to experience yourself first and foremost taking benefit in simply being……giving you focus, purpose and inspiration to living a fulfilling life.
Nowadays the concept of retreating has stretched. You can still find retreats that offer a spiritual approach however now there are also retreats with a more energetic and purposeful approach.
Our retreats at Virtuoso Foods focuses on giving you the opportunity to get a way to a lovely venue where you get to enjoy the surroundings of the villa we have chosen, in beautiful surroundings, to not only nourish your heart and soul, to also give you the chance to wind down and join in with regular guided meditation practices to instil peace and harmony in mind and soul as well as offering food, health and life coaching and hands on cooking workshops to demonstrate healthy ways to enjoy delicious foods and drinks, in combinations that benefit not only the physical body but also the mind.
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM A RETREAT?
There is a huge selection of retreats on offer. Before you decide, ask yourself what you really want and need from your time out.
Q: How much structure do you want from your retreat? Some offer a full program of activities and others allow more free time. At Virtuoso Foods our approach is to offer you some free time to enjoy your beautiful surroundings with some structured workshops, guided meditation practices, coaching sessions, however these are all optional. Nothing is compulsory so you can take advantage in as much or as little as you want. The aim is for you to leave feeling refreshed, energised with enough information, learnings and knowledge as you want and need.
Q: How much interaction with other people do you want? Some retreats will cater for quite large groups and be very sociable in focus. At Virtuoso Foods we only cater for small numbers purely so that each individual gains the most benefit out of group sessions and workshops as well as having more advantage in making the most of the beautiful surroundings and amenities without feeling pressured in time, bookings, timings and being overwhelmed!
Q: Do you want to follow a particular path or belief system? A retreat can be the perfect opportunity to look into, say, Buddhism, ayurveda or yoga. Although there are of course specific retreats catering to these specific areas, at Virtuoso Foods we focus simply on our moto of ‘Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’. This simply means getting a way in beautiful surroundings for a few days, having time to mingle in a small group, having enough structure without feeling pressurised and that things are too regimented and knowing that there is enough being offered that you can walk away with exactly what you want and need for that moment in your life.
Q: How much support do you need? Even the most sociable, active retreat can cause old or repressed emotions to rise up. If you are not used to working with your emotions, rest assured that our host(s) is skilled enough to work alongside you to identify and deal with any feelings and emotions that need to be addressed. At Virtuoso Foods, we offer a fusion of Food, Health & Life Coaching with the essential support of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which focuses on dealing with the mind, it’s patterns and ways to reprogram the mind into positive states.
Q: How long do you want to go on a retreat for? If you are new to retreats, maybe test the water with a short weekend retreat. At Virtuoso Foods we offer a 5 night, 6 day package, which we feel is the right length to give you enough to relax and unwind and focus on the areas our retreats has to offer.
FOOD is an important part of our retreats. The key focus on our retreats is the food, not only eating and enjoying it, also to learn how to mindfully prepare and cook the foods, in what combinations to maximise the benefits on the body and mind as well as understanding the benefits of each food group. We also start to look at the way each individual feels in general day to day life and identify ways to feel better leaving the body more healthy and energised as well as the mind more calm, focused and confident. We also give you the chance to re-evaluate your diet and/or your relationship with your body.
All our retreats offer food that is 100% Vegan as well as catering to those who are gluten intolerant.
So in summary, the emphasis for our retreats are for you to take time out from your busy schedule, relax, recharge and energise. The goal of these retreats are to give you an introduction into achieving better health and longevity through natural practices, classes and hands on workshops with our professional health coach and holistic executive chef, Guilda. Guilda is not only the owner of Virtuoso Foods, she is a professional Vegan, Gluten Free & Raw chef, now specialising in Macrobiotics. She will be showing, guiding and teaching you how to cook with seasonal produce to create delicious dishes.
The daily schedule will include cooking demonstrations and workshops, hands on cooking, talks and discussions on daily specific subjects around food and health, meditation classes, groups and movement sessions. You will leave filling refreshed having thoroughly enjoyed some ‘you’ time in magical luxurious settings with access to all modern conveniences. You will also have plenty of ‘free’ time to enjoy the villa and pool, it’s surroundings as well as the local beaches and town.
