The start of the lunar year is getting ever closer, and millions across the world are preparing to gather with family, get out the firecrackers and celebrate Chinese New Year.
This January denotes the beginning of the Year of the Rooster, defined by the Chinese zodiac cycle. The day is traditionally marked with the giving of gifts and celebrations with family.

To help celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year, I have come up with a delicious Chinese dish for you to try your hands at making at home.
STICKY TOFU, BROCCOLI & BROWN RICE
1 block of extra firm tofu, cubed or cut into triangles
1 head of broccoli cut into pieces
2 cups of organic short grain brown rice
4 tbsp tamari sauce
1 tbsp raw honey/maple syrup
2 tbsp raw sesame seeds
2 tsp olive oil/coconut oil
Cook the rice in a pan with 5 cups of water and pinch of salt. Bring the rice to boil and then cover and simmer on a low heat for 45 minutes.
After 30 minutes of the rice cooking, start to prepare the tofu and broccoli.
Steam the broccoli until tender.
Saute the tofu pieces in a frying pan filled with 2 tbsp of olive oil/coconut oil, tamari sauce, honey/syrup and sesame seeds. 2 minutes on one side, turn over and cook for a further 3-4 minutes.
Serve and enjoy. HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR x
